Teaching programs
SUzuki Violin and Viola
The Suzuki method is a tool for whole child education and support in the context of music education. With the support and direction from their teacher and the partnership of their parent, students develop musical skills necessary for instrument mastery, practice skills necessary for ownership and self direction, and the belief in their abilities that gives them the gumption to explore, learn, and enjoy.
TRaditional violin and Viola
The traditional method historically became a label after the popularity of the Suzuki Method in the music education community to reference any method that was not Suzuki. In this studio it is simply the widening of the scope of possibility for advanced and advancing violinists within the context of their practice strategy and repertoire while maintaining the belief that all children can learn, skills build most easily on the mastery of other skills, and family and community support make everything more joyful and easy.
Chamber Music
Groups of 2-5 students come together in weekly coachings, each student on their own part, in chamber groups as a tool not only to polish their performance repertoire, but to help students develop a deep experience of music, critical thinking, independence, and ownership, and the communication skills necessary for teamwork in service of developing a shared vision. Through the thorough exploration of musical components needed to develop analytical, critical, and independent thinking as a way to explore their understanding of the composers intentions, the self trust and intuition to engage deeply to their own experience of the music, and the communications skills to share their perspectives and experiences and navigate group decision making, students develop both as musicians and as people.
